Sextapes vs Porn: Long-term consequences?

I‘ve been on and off trying to quit porn for the past 8 years. This is my first time making a tangible commitment to doing so. I don‘t do no-fap, nor am I motivated by religion or have a girlfriend — I just want to free my porn-clouded mind to discover and feel my true personal sexuality again. However, something I couldn‘t wrap my head around yet: I own sextapes and nudes of current and past partners and I‘ve found myself revisiting those in similar patterns like I used to with porn. My question is if this has similar effects on me in the long-run like porn consumption. I‘d be happy if somebody with similar experiences and a longer ongoing streak could give some feedback. Because on one hand, these fantasies are my very own, real and not artificially fed to me by the porn industry. On the other hand, I‘m starting to follow similar patterns as I would with porn consumption. I‘m keen on what you guys have to say :) Cheers!

Sort of agree with M. You’re still watching content that is basically porn if you think about it. If you take the fact of you doing it out of it, you’re watching two people having sex.

You recognize that it’s feeding the same behavior as porn. This means that the neural pathways built by porn use are still used with the sex tapes. A porn addiction is also a dopamine addiction. During withdrawals, your brain will try to find other ways to get dopamine. So, when you watch a sex tape, you feed that part of yourself that you were trying to kill by avoiding porn.

Even though those tapes are about you, and not ‘artificially fed’ to you, I would argue they’re still not healthy. This is of course my personal opinion, but I think the only healthy sexual life is to have sex with your current partner. If you don’t have one, go look for one. I’d delete or destroy the tapes if I were you. This is of course only my opinion. Stay strong brother!
