Daily Tank fact day 1
Am bored, so instead of cranking my hog, I’m just going to post tank facts instead! Tanks first saw service during World War 1, and to be quite frank with y’all initially sucked quite badly. French tanks especially. The St. Chamond and Schneider CA1 were examples of this, and were so bad in most respects that I will not elaborate on them. However, the French Company Renault dropped an absolute banger in 1917: the FT-17. Small, mobile, reliable, and decently well armed, the FT-17 Light Tank is considered by many to be the first true tank. It was the first tank to ever use a fully rotating turret, a feature that almost every tank (there’s like 3 exceptions) since has used. It was armed with either 1 machine gun or 1 37mm cannon, could travel 5.5 mph (its speed wasn’t good, but due to its size and weight it could keep said speed consistently over horrible terrain), and was crewed by 2 soldiers. It saw service long after WW1 with dozens of nations, most notably by the Poles during their war for independence against the fledging Soviet Union. Unfortunately during the Second World War, reactivated FTs were decimated by their more modern, German speaking offspring. Though the FT didn’t end its service life on a good note, its revolutionary design and initial effectiveness caused the FT-17 to leave behind a Stellar legacy. That is all folks Stay strong y’all!
