Take some advice

I've noticed that a lot of the issues a ton of us with this issue deal with is that our dopamine systems are absolutely fried. You’re Stuck in a Dopamine Desert. Change isn’t hard, it’s impossible (This is why, if they can stick to it, cold exposure/showers works so effectively for some. It can boost dopamine up to 200%.) Do you wan't the answer? It's going to sound insane to some. SUNLIGHT You AREN'T lazy. Your BRAIN is DARK! NO sunlight = NO dopamine NO dopamine = a frontal lobe that can’t dream beyond right now. People with this issue tend cling to what they have, blind to what they could gain. You’re not holding onto your life, you’re chained to it. Low dopamine doesn’t just kill motivation; it locks you in a now-prison, where the future can’t exist. No solar light, no frontal time, no agency. You don’t lack discipline, you lack a tomorrow. The Sun writes time in dopamine-fueled circuits. Without it, your neurology rots in entropy, not emergence. The unwilling don’t just stay stuck, they DECAY! You can’t sacrifice who you ARE because the light that builds who you COULD be never touched your skin. Your choices aren’t yours until the Sun carves them into your prefrontal cortex with an electric scar. Soak in the light, or stay in the dark forever.

Eli you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The world is filled with a bunch of low dopamine idiots, and you are outing yourself as one of them. Look into the work of Jack Kruse.

Also, the dopamine signaling pathway goes through many nuclei that coordinate the drive or urge to do something. While this could very well end in the prefrontal cortex as it is where executive functioning takes place, there is much more to the story. Again- I get the sentiment of the post, just thought I would try to point you in a direction since you seem eager about the science.

I get the sentiment- but dopamine is not just manufactured if you soak in sun. That’s not at all how the production of dopamine works in the brain. If you’re interested, read the book The Molecule of More by Daniel Lieberman. Anna Lembke also has a great book on this. It’s about more than just not getting enough sunlight- and it’s disingenuous to make people believe that all they need to do is look at the sun more to “fix their dopamine”. There’s real work that must be done. Keep it up though brother, glad it’s going well for you.

I agree but disagree with the "reacting normally" bit. Most people with this issue have desensitized dopamine receptors. This makes it hard for them to reach and maintain baseline levels. Baseline feels "empty" or "depressive" for a lack of better terms. Tasks do not feel as rewarding as they normally should. This is why they can't wait for or crave their next dopamine high. This is also why, if they can, they tend to avoid low-effort or unrewarding activities. Intense, unpleasant and high effort activities can usually help a ton on the road to recovery as well.

This is important and true. Dopamine is the main cause. But since we go below baseline, it causes more problems. So it takes a while to come back to baseline and then start reacting normally

We tend to avoid labeling ourselves as addicts. Why? Who you currently are is an addict. But there is a strong difference between the way that you view yourself, and the way that you SHOULD view yourself. You aren't addicted to porn. You're addicted to DOPAMINE. Why? Because you DON'T HAVE ANY. Let the light of the sun help repair your fried reward system. This isn't some woo woo bullshit, it's our biology.

Get the FUCK outside See the morning sunlight See the Mid-Day sun See the sunset TURN YOUR LIGHTS OFF AT NIGHT! This will genuinely be the strongest tool for you to carve yourself out of this fucking hole with. Take it and run with it.
