What do you guys think the root of this habit that most share? Is it a lack of creative outlet? Is it unfulfillment? Lack of purpose? Low self esteem? Escapism? Let me know your thoughts 💭

I think there are so many reasons for it including all that you mentioned. While we have to examine ourselves for continuing it, I think that’s why the enemy wants to get the hook in at a young age or when you’re in a vulnerable or traumatic state. Dr. Carolyn Leaf, a Christian neurologist, explained that the brains neuropathways become set to seem the habit but that things like reading the word, worship and other things can help break the old pathways and create new ones. Over a period of 21 days they can be reset, but it is our job to maintain them. As you do that the less you seek the habit and the less the brain craves it. So it could be escapism, lack of purpose or other things, but all of those things can be found through seeking the word intentionally and building a relationship with Christ. I know not everyone is a Christian on here, but that’s what I know has been helping me have longer periods of sustained freedom from the habit. If you’re not a Christian, I say give the method a try.

I believe majority of it is rooted in trauma as a kid being introduced to 🌽 and touched at a very early age. Most ppl want to fulfill that urge and get it done but it only keeps the cycle going. I also believe it has something to do with generational curses as well that’s deeply rooted in family lineages
