Delete Instagram

Very disheartening development recently. As we all know, instagram pushes adult/inappropriate content, but I came across something that made me feel sick. There was a post made where this girls whole account is flashing the camera through mirrors and stuff. Full on nudity of both her chest and her lower regions. So I went to report it, in the reporting function, it gives you the option to select “shows nudity/ sexual activity” which it did, full on stealth porn freely accessible to all ages. I reported it and they got back to me to say, “no action was taken”. Literally breaking the terms and conditions of the app and nothing was done. Delete instagram guys, for whatever reason they allow porn to be posted to their app. Tapping “not interested” doesn’t work as that content always finds a way to make its way back. AND I found out that EVERY post you tapped not interested on, is basically saved. In settings you can view all the posts you didn’t want to see on your FYP. You can’t permanently remove them, the only other option is to remove them from the not interested list, but it says removing them will allow similar posts to be put on your FYP. Just delete the app. At best it’s distracting you from achieving your goal, at worst it’ll make you relapse.

I agree, insta is a huge trigger but if you go in the settings and find the “reset algorithm” section and apply, it’s helped tremendously. I would keep it permanently deleted but I have too many memes being sent from the homies that they insist I see, so that’s all I try to use it for. Tik tok I know is another big one for people but luckily I hate that vine wanna be app so that didn’t apply to me as much lol. Deleting the app is the best option 100% but if you just can’t do it then at least hit that reset button and then spend 10 minutes searching for any hobby content you’d like to see and enjoy.

That was my goal to really clean up my algorithm but I’m still fresh into breaking this addiction to where it’s really easy for me to relapse. I hope I can return to instagram as it’s how I stay up to date with family and friends. I desperately need to get better at using all the tools at my disposal with this app and the first step is to remove/avoid things that cause me to stumble.

I strongly support deleting Instagram. But: if you want a first step you can minimize your sensitive content. If you go into settings and preferences you can select “show less” and you won’t see as much of the more graphic stuff. Instagram knows and they’ll keep it there to keep us addicted to it

I have finally retrained my algo just to show me workout vids, looksmaxxing and side hustles - but I agree in the early stages of recovery it’s best to delete it until the girls start losing their grip on your brain
