Be Utterly Astounded

““Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.” ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭ I was reading my Bible this morning when this passage really jumped out to me. Habakkuk is lamenting, he’s casting complaints before the Lord. In verses 2 he says, ““O Lord, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” And You will not save.” ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬. And the Lord’s response? Just watch! You’re going to be utterly astounded! You’re going to be amazed. You’ll look on with wonder because I’m doing something so unbelievable that you wouldn’t even believe it if someone told you. I think the battle with porn tends to warp our perception of reality. Sometimes we feel like there’s no way out, like we’re too far gone, like there’s nothing anyone can do, like not even God can redeem us now. But I want to encourage you all this morning, that God can utterly astound you. The breadth of his ability to save, redeem, and heal is beyond our ability to even believe. So next time you feel the kind of despair that Habakkuk did that has you crying out to God, “Violence!” Remember, God is working a work that will leave you utterly astounded.
