What the Bible says about how to overcome sin
Remember, NEVER GIVE UP! Jesus Christ Does Not Condemn You! Even the great apostle Paul battled temptation. In Romans 7:19 (KJV) he confesses: “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” This reminds us that although we walk in the flesh, we don’t live by its ways. In Romans 8:1 (KJV) we are encouraged: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” We all struggle, and yes, we sometimes fall. But remember: a righteous person may fall up to seven times, yet they will rise again. We all sin, and we are utterly dependent on God’s grace. I understand how tempting it can be to give in—I’ve been there too. When I questioned whether I loved Jesus more than my sinful desires, I realized I was choosing my flesh over the Lord. I sought forgiveness and reached out for His help. Don’t be deceived by the lies of the enemy. The devil, the father of lies, will whisper: • “Everyone does this—you’re just human.” • “Just one more time, and you can stop later.” • “It’s okay; you can ask for forgiveness after.” • “Look at what you’re missing out on.” James 4:7 (NIV) advises us: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Trust in this promise. When you feel overwhelmed by temptation, don’t try to fight it alone—run to Jesus. Picture sin as a giant and yourself as a small ant. If you cannot defeat temptation on your own, run and ask God, who is mightier than all, to help you. Discipline is part of God’s loving training. Hebrews 12:11 (NIV) reminds us: “No discipline is pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” And remember, God is just and faithful. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV) assures us: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” Change begins when you choose to love Jesus more than your sinful nature. Evaluate your life—your friendships, conversations, and even what you see online. Align them with God’s will and ask yourself: How much are you willing to sacrifice to please the Lord Jesus Christ? When temptation strikes, don’t hesitate. Rather than trying to battle sin by yourself, run to Jesus. Allow Him to fight your battles for you. May Jesus Christ always bless you, strengthen you, and guide you through every trial. You’re never alone in this fight.
Good words! For several years, I’ve been noticing and collecting verses that say the idea, “You don’t have to sin”. Over 600 so far! I do not mean these words to sound condemning at all, but hopeful! I’m just starting (8 days) this commitment after 43 years of addiction, knowing this that I talk about much of the way. I’ve tried to go it alone, but I need help of community…and what I talk about below… God overwhelmingly wants us to know that living without sinning is possible! The devil wants us to think that we are just ‘sinners who are gonna sin, bless us’—what a lie! Yes, we are human and we can mess up, and when we do, we have a merciful God who has given us a way to repent and re-enter our right relationship with Him…but the Bible never teaches that Christians should live sinful lives because we can get forgiven at the end because we are just human. By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. (2 Pet 1:3a) Thanks again.
