I’ve only been sober for almost two weeks, but I know I will NOT be going back. I’ve lost all interest in porn and masturbation. One things that helped me big time is blockers and getting rid of social media. For people like us almost anything can be triggering so taking that next step and blocking EVERYTHING and delete everything as well. Once you delete all your social and block everything off. you WILL get bored. Trust me there is no easy way through this addiction. Your mind will be in this state of “what am I missing” like that feeling you have when you leave your house thinking you forgot something. But a HUGE part of defeat your addiction and overcoming urges is being able to sit with that boredom and that weird feeling of missing something. Sitting with that anxiety from not having what you crave. That boredom that you WILL feel isn’t boredom though. It’s the peace your mind isn’t used to. Constant dopamine surges and pleasure has infected you. Rewire and sit with your thoughts…even the bad ones.

sit with the sad thoughts enough to a point where your brain has no other option but to make something of those thoughts. If your not giving into porn when you feel lonely, eventually your brain has to make those thoughts turn into something good because your not looking for a “high” anymore. Just take your time and be patient with yourself. Be present.

it stops feeling empty, when the gratitude from being sober begins to sink in, you start acknowledging the little things. One thing I noticed is that now that I’m at this point being lonely and those feeling of being alone don’t consume me any more. Our brains make us feel bad about being alone so that we run to our only coping mechanism(porn) and then the cycle starts… I now take pride in those thoughts, they were once a gateway to a relapse but now they’re just signs to look at where I really want to be. It’s a change of mind and your perspectives. it does NOT happen overnight but pushing through and seeing it through really can do a number

Great post… but how long until it stops feeling empty and starts feeling like peace? Two days in, already feeling that emptiness when I’m alone
