What if hobbies don’t help?

I’ve read over and over that you need to cut out porn and replace it with something else, “find a hobby”. I already: read my Bible, workout 1-2x a day, watch educational videos, meet up with friends, volunteer at a horse barn, volunteer to feed homeless, cook, sing in choir, clean my apartment, road trips, walks, journal, call friends, etc etc etc…. But at the end of the day, it’s just me, alone in my apt. I feel like I’m trying to run away from this and I can’t run fast enough. Advice?

Thank you. That’s helpful to reflect on.

God wants to use you for His kingdom. The shame is real and gut wrenching. Once you have repented though, any remaining shame that resides is the enemy trying to hold you down because he knows that once you have conquered this addiction your story will help so many more grow closer to Christ. It will help them find victory in Jesus and it will all be to the glory of God.

And also thank you Tim and Ray. Those are good points and suggestions.

Thank you, Robert. That’s very convicting for me. That is the one step I have not done and seems the hardest to me. Admitting this to people in my real life, aside from my biblical counselor, that I’m struggling with this sin. The shame as a woman is monumental. But I will make an effort this week towards what you’ve suggested. Thanks brother.

Finding a hobby is, in my belief, worldly advice. The Bible says that plans without council are destined to fail. Find a group of fellow female believers that can hold you accountable. Just like how Moses needed help from Aaron and Hur holding up his arms so that they could win the battle against the Amalekites. You need the same support as well. Another portion of this is placing on the armor of God (Ephesians 6), it would be wise to look into what it means to place on that armor and the practical applications of doing so. Psalm 32 is a good reminder of how sin makes you feel as you move forward in your journey and you find yourself at weak points. Grace and peace to you, Kathryn. Let the Lord guide your paths and be the light under your feet.

honestly it’s will never go away because we have the primal urge but overtime you gain REAL CONTROL over the urge. you gotta embrace the struggle because that’s why it’s worth it

Sometimes it just takes being able to resist and flee from those thoughts. Cause there will always be a point where you are alone and bored and that’s when the enemy attacks

What helps me sometimes when I’m feeling really tempted is i literally have to throw my phone away from me on my sofa or bed. Then i usually try to go do something like a chore and it’ll help. Not always, but literally separating yourself from the thing that’ll cause you to stumble is a good way to break the urge
