Do y’all think that taking breaks in a relationship for personal development is healthy or an excuse? I’ve been in and out of a relationship with someone for the past 2 years now and we’ve went on a handful of breaks because she has said that she’s not at a point in her life where she can put a relationship with me first. We’re both 20 and I love her but I do not know what to do.

It seems like when the going gets rough, she backs out. In my opinion, thats not a partner I’d want around. She’s supposed to be my rock (as I hers), willing to work through our struggles together. If she don’t want that then peace out

Sounds like you are both playing games. Do you think you want your future wife to abide in a world where you “take breaks”? Dating is the trial of marriage. Don’t take it lightly. It’s the most important decision you will make

Support her decision and support her. Loving someone is doing what’s best for them even if it hurts you.

I believe it to be an excuse. Love doesn’t fail. Real love, so why run away from a relationship when you deal with personal hardships? When you’re married do you tell your spouse “yeah I need a break” then just leave? No. Breaks are excuses. Although you’re just dating, you date to find qualities in who you want to be your wife. Don’t let her walk all over you doing that. It’s not fair and you need to stand your ground and stay committed to what you believe is right.

I think your partner should be one of the few things that doesn’t drain you and they should always energize you. If you feel Its the opposite then maybe a relationship isn’t the best idea right now. You can love someone and want to improve yourself first and that’s ok! Knowing when to commit is a form of love as well.

Fyi we’re currently on a break and it’s been about a week but I’ve been stressing and thinking about it a lot
